It all started when…

Ali Warner is best known for her black and white work with strong, contrasting grayscale. She has been a professional photographer since 2012.

In 1967 Ali was born into an expatriate family who was in the process of moving from the Indian subcontinent to east Africa. The natural environment is a constant interest, focusing on the intersections between humans and enviroment that people have with their part of the world.

Commercial clients include a range of customers tapping into her portrait skills. Cashmere scarves, yoga clothing and jewellery to highlight a few. In the last three years Ali has been developing photography workshops across India. Recent tours have included the Sacred Rivers Tour where her guests travelled to the Kumbh Mela, the largest gathering of humanity on the planet.

Ali is committed to alternative photography techniques including Cyanotypes, and runs various workshops on the subject. Teaching has included GCSE Photography with excellent results, lecturing at Chichester College and various extended workshops at schools (Twyford Prep, Bedales Junior School).

Current projects include polymer photogravure work on the Trees of India for an upcoming exhibition in May 2023, and the ongoing Moonscape Series. MoonMoth recently won an Honorable Mention in the global 2023 Monochrome Awards (Fine Art Category). This image is part of a wider creative response to light pollution and our insect ecology. Other projects include an examination of vanishing Himalayan nomadic practices in Ladakh, and India’s indigenous horses. Ali continues her obsession with India’s rivers and the concept of journey. Charity projects include ‘Lockdown Porchtraits’ supporting Jasper Reid and Future Hope, Kolkata.

Ali has a PhD in Geography from SOAS, a Masters in Aquatic Resource Management from Kings College, London. She works and teaches, running workshops from her studio and across India. Tours across India also include special interest holidays (textiles, food, classic cars) with supported photography. She lives in Bosham with her wonderful husband, their sunny children and two fabulous collies.
