South India - Food and Photography Tour January and March 2023
The Stoneflower Culinary Tours
South India is fabulous.
The food is mouthwatering, and this is an opportunity to learn how to make amazing dishes from across the region of Tamil Nadu. Famous for its temple towns and deep culture, Tamil Nadu has a vibrant cuisine and amazing hospitality. We’re going on a food safari across the region, staying for a good chunk of time in Chettinad where we explore, slowly, the food and architecture of the region.
Demonstrations, practicals, following the process from field to plate, you’ll learn how to create delicious dishes and, should you wish, how to photograph the results. Our cooks are a brilliant mix of professional chefs, housewives, village ladies, all defined by their knowledge and love for their regional cuisine.
Photography is supported rather than the main event, where you can dip in and out of photographic practice and dig deep into the food.
The itinerary follows a trail that begins in Chennai, eases south to Pondicherry, and then westwards to Tangier and then Chettinad, enjoying boutique hotels and beautiful locations.
Chettinad is an area with extraordinary domestic architecture from the 1900’s and a regional cuisine famous within India. The tour ends in Madurai, a large temple town with much to enjoy and great food. (See dates/starting points for Tours I and II).
